Clinical Research Advisor

Brigadier General OR Ayemoba (Rtd) is a Chief Consultant Haematologist working for the Nigerian Ministry of Defence Health Implementation Programme (MODHIP).

This followed his retirement from the Nigerian Army in 2014 as a Brigadier General. In addition to his passion for the practice of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, he is motivated by the conduct of research into Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDs) which constitute the most potent danger to human existence in our generation. In this regard, he has worked extensively in the national response to the control of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. His contributions and experience range from policy formulation, prevention, care and treatment, to clinical research activities.

Apart from his clinical work, he has been involved in the conceptualization, development and operationalization of key military health initiatives such as the Armed Forces Blood Centre in Port Harcourt, the HIV/AIDS Clinical Training and Research Centre in Kaduna as well as the Defence Reference Laboratory in Abuja. His research experience cuts across determination of national Laboratory reference ranges, HIV epidemiological studies for vaccine cohort development, HIV virological suppression rates for patients on antiretroviral therapy and phase 2 studies on Ebola vaccine trials. He has served as Principal Investigator for many Research Protocols.

He is presently the Operations Pillar/Lead of MODHIP Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in Abuja, with research focus in the epidemiology, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, treatment of COVID-19 patients and other Emerging Infectious Diseases including the on-going vaccine trial against Lassa Fever.
