Brigadier General Idris Babatunde Solebo is a highly decorated senior military officer and medical specialist who has dedicated over two decades to advancing healthcare delivery within the Nigerian Armed Forces. His expertise spans clinical excellence in obstetrics and gynecology, military health systems strengthening, and executive-level health policy leadership.
Educated both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, Brig Gen Solebo holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Lagos, a Masters of Science in Reproductive and Sexual Health Research from the University of London, and an Executive MBA from the London Business School. His professional credentials include Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (MRCOG), UK Completion of Certificate of Training (CCT), and fellowships in public health. These qualifications have supported his mission to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in some of the most demanding healthcare environments.
As former head of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, he led pivotal advancements in military health education, training, and infrastructure. His leadership facilitated postgraduate accreditation in military facilities and advanced partnerships with academic institutions.
Currently, as Director General of the Ministry of Defence Health Implementation Programme (MODHIP), he leads integrated health programs focused on combatting HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and other infectious diseases, thereby ensuring effective policy implementation and service delivery within and beyond the Armed Forces. He is a member on the scientific Advisory Board of the African Cohort Study (AFRICOS).
He also serves as Nigeria’s representative of the Armed Forces on the Governing Council of the National Health Insurance Authority.
