Lieutenant Colonel Inalegwu Ochai is a very experienced Professional Medical Laboratory Scientist, a facilitator and a laboratory mentor with Inherent passion for patient care, good knowledge of medical laboratory functions, practice and policies. The senior Officer is hardworking, highly disciplined, result oriented, very resourceful and insightful in solving problems with a commendable sense of duty. He has a deep passion for excellence and desire to promote best practice in achieving set organizational goals and objectives as well as continuous learning and development. Lt Col I Ochai was commissioned into the Nigerian army on the 8 December 2007 as a member of the Direct Regular Combatant Course 15 after his Cadet trainig. He is presently the Director Defence Reference Laboratory, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja.

Ochai had his early education at Methodist Nursery and Primary School, Ogoli,-Ugboju, Oturkpo Local Government Area of Benue State and finished at Government College in Markudi, Benue State. He attended University of Jos where he bagged a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Medical Microbiology as well as Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Education with PhD Medical Microbiology in view. He had an Associate of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN) and a Fellow of Institute of proficiency Safety Measures, Nigeria (FIPSMN). The Director is a Member of several professional bodies, among which are, Association of Medical Laboratory Science of Nigeria, Member of Nigeria Biosafety Association, Member Institute of Proficiency safety Measures, American Society of Microbiology among others. He also obtained a certificate in Global Health Leadership & Management in Health and a Professional Development Course in Monitoring and Evaluation both from the University of Washington and several other certificates from trainings and workshops.

Lieutenant Colonel Ochai has held several appointments including Medical Laboratory Officer (MLO) at 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna (44 NARHK), Senior Medical Lab Scientist/Admin Officer at Defence Reference Laboratory Abuja, HOD Pathology Laboratory/Admin Officer at Armed Forces Specialist Hospital Kano, HOD Medical Laboratory/Commanding Officer Admin at 6 Division Medical Services and Hospital Port Harcourt. Further more, the Director had also worked in the two apex reference hospitals laboratories in the Nigerian Army: He held the appointment of HOD Pathology Laboratory 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Yaba, Lagos and the HOD Pathology Department 44 NARHK. Until his present appointment, Lt Col I Ochai was HOD at Army Command and NAOWA Hospital, Asokoro Abuja. The Director has track records of excellence management and leadership skills with very good commendable impact and added values to all the places he works.

Lieutenant Colonel Inalegwu Participated in several Studies/Research with publications in both Local and International Journals. The Officer is a proud holder of commendations, honors and awards.
