In a continuation of strategic engagements across program sites, the Director General of the Ministry of Defence Health Implementation Programme (MODHIP) paid a courtesy visit to the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital (NARH), Yaba, Lagos. The visit, which took place in the afternoon hours of January 2025, marked a key opportunity for leadership connection, progress review, and team motivation.
The DG and his entourage arrived at the facility around 2:10 PM and were warmly received by the Chief Medical Director (CMD). In a display of mutual respect and shared commitment, the CMD extended his appreciation to the DG for the proactive leadership being demonstrated by the new MODHIP administration. He also reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Site Team Leader (STL) and the Programme’s mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services to military personnel and surrounding communities.
As a gesture of goodwill and tradition, the CMD presented a commemorative souvenir to the DG, symbolizing institutional respect and partnership. This set the tone for a productive session as the delegation proceeded to visit the Infectious Disease Clinic (IDC), which is a cornerstone of MODHIP’s health intervention efforts in the facility.
Following the facility tour, the team gathered at the hospital’s conference room for a formal briefing led by the STL. During her presentation, the STL outlined the current status of the site, highlighting key strengths such as efficient service delivery, dedicated staff, and improved client satisfaction. She also identified ongoing challenges, including resource limitations and infrastructure needs, which could potentially hinder progress if not addressed.
The DG listened attentively and expressed his admiration for the STL’s leadership and commitment. He acknowledged the efforts of the entire team, praising their resilience and professionalism in the face of operational constraints.
He further emphasized the importance of synergy between all cadres of health personnel, noting that consistent collaboration and open communication are vital to the success of any healthcare delivery system. He assured the STL and her team of the Programme’s readiness to support their operations, promising to escalate their concerns where necessary and provide solutions within the capacity of MODHIP and its partners.
This visit was not only a morale booster but also a reaffirmation of the Programme’s commitment to site-level excellence, strategic leadership engagement, and data-informed decision-making. It served as an opportunity to strengthen bonds, align priorities, and motivate frontline staff toward a shared vision of sustained impact and innovation in military health services.
As MODHIP continues its nationwide tour of supported sites, visits like these help reinforce the values of transparency, accountability, and collaboration—cornerstones of a robust and responsive public health framework.
“Great leadership is amplified by great teamwork—together, you have the power to deliver transformative healthcare.”
